| Kevin was appointed senior pastor of North United Methodist Church in July of 2003. He previously served for 9 years at Roberts Park United Methodist Church. Both Roberts Park and North are vital urban churches serving Indianapolis. Originally from Washington, Indiana, he has been a minister in the South Indiana Conference of the United Methodist Church since June 1985. He is a graduate of DePauw and Duke Universities. His ministry began with his work as a chaplain at DePauw.
Kevin has written extensively for periodicals and co-authored a book with L. Gregory Jones, Dean of the Duke School of Divinity, Resurrecting Excellence: Shaping Faithful Christian Ministry, (Eerdmans, 2006) which has already gone into its second printing. Kevin also serves on numerous boards including the Louisville Institute, the Mental Health Association of Marion County, the Clergy Advisory Council of the National Association of Mental Illness, Spirit and Place, a civic festival celebrating the arts, religion, and humanities in Central Indiana, the United Methodist Council of DePauw University, Greencastle, Indiana and the Oxford Institute for Methodist Studies, Oxford, England.
Additionally Kevin is a vital resource and teacher for ministries connecting North with the larger community locally and beyond. Kevin serves as adjunct faculty for the University of Indianapolis and is a frequent lecturer at Christian Theological Seminary. He is a sought-after speaker for leading seminars and workshops in leadership excellence and the church in an urban setting. Kevin was integral in a major study conducted by The Polis Center and underwritten by the Lilly Foundation on Religion and Urban Culture that resulted in a teaching video series and was presented in part on the PBS program, Religion and Ethics.
Kevin is married to Nancy Armstrong, Director of Finance and Resource Consultant at the Indianapolis Center for Congregations. They have one daughter, Jenna, a student at Rhodes College.
